Kinja'd!!!

I got a girl looking for a last gen Prelude for under 3000$ which is a difficult task when most of them are rusty and needs repairs at this price. Also she wants it automatic (keep that in mind). I tried to make her understand that the sportshift had issues with them and that it's best to get a manual she said ok then get me a Prelude with a manual transmission. When I show what could be good to get, she says it has too much mileage. I said ''save more money then because it's the cleanest Preludes you'll get for the moment under 3000''. Then she asked to find other cars for less mileage that looks sporty. I then thought about a Focus SVT...but knowing her, she'll discard it since it's American.

So I continue my search and stop on 2 Civics both 2004 and 2 doors clean and with 190000km and 200000km respectively. One was white and the other was black. She liked the white one but I discovered that the car originally blue and there was a lot of repairs to do so this one was X. The black one? She hated it because it was too coupé (keep that in mind). I then found Accords in good condition (one of them is dark blue, keep that in mind), hated them for the colour. I tried Acura, but nothing was good. I decided to keep searching on Preludes...I found a white one that was in good shape from the pictures and only 180000km for 2900$. I asked her if she liked it in a FB message. No reponse except "seen 11:30". At this point I stopped searching and decided to lay back. She came back with a ad of a Toyota Solara Coupé for 5000$(didn't she had only 3000$???) and guess what? It was accidented. So I said don't buy it. Then she showed up an ad of a 2005 Honda Civic....coupé...dark blue...manual for 3000$. Ultimate clusterfuck middle finger in front of my face while stabbing with a knife with salt on it! She just doesn't know wth she wants!! I give up.

It depends on what part of the country you are in and if she is willing to travel. You can find a lot better 5th gens down south in good condition, but like you said they will have over 130K miles... (unless from what it sounds like, youre in canada....) And good catch on knowing about the auto trans issues. Thats usually the first warning i try to give people. Next would be to avoid an SH version if you arent prepared to do some fluid changes/lack of certain parts support. They have a very different front suspension setup than a base. And remember, the other most important thing to tell her is that a timing belt change is absolutely necessary every 80-100K mile intervals. And that applies to every other belt driven honda too. its about a 1000-1300$ job at a shop.

And i knew the prelude had to have a catch, its a girls car.... O well, i guess its not the worst thing.

And finding cars for girls is very difficult. I was able to find my sister one, but luckily she wasnt picky and i had a bit of freedom to choose. Some of my coworkers who are looking, i want to help, but i know better to stay away because i know it will turn into exactly whats happening to you.

Btw, does she like any of the mazdas? 3, 3 hatch

She got brainwashed by a bunch of people saying Mazdas are unreliable and that they rust with ease...it's hard to argue when you got 2006-2007 even 2008 cars with rust. Even mine, a 2010, is starting to some small spots on the top and I tried to keep top notch since day one! And yes I'm in Canada with lot of snow and salty roads.

yeahhhhh mazdas are kinda known for the rust too unfortunately. But by that logic she should be staying away from hondas and anything japanese for that matter. But honestly, what car isnt going to rust in those situations...

Indeed, some are tougher than other...older Audis for example.

Advice: Back away slowly. I know this kind of girl and your help won't stop at finding the car. Since you found it, you'll heard about it every time it breaks and likely doing minor repairs on it. If you're really a sucker you'll be doing all of the above without even getting a piece of 'thank you' for your troubles.

That why I gave up on searching and see her for the past few weeks. She really doesn't know what she wants and since am a mechanic, she depends way too much on me. She even gave my number to her vulture friends...
